Face Lathering
I used to put a bit of shaving cream in a bowl and swirl it around to create a lather. Today, I realized that’s not the way to go. Applying the shaving cream directly to your face and bypassing the shaving bowl is a better option.
Face lathering has 3 main advantages:
- It gives the acids in the shaving cream more time to soften your facial hair
- You save time – face lathering is about 20% faster
- You use less shaving cream
Some people say they can adjust the water content in their lather better if they mix it in a bowl, but for me, face-lathering are no downsides.
So just how do you about face lathering? First, do what you usually do to get ready for a shave. You do take a shower or at least apply water to your face for 30 seconds right? Then, soak your brush, give it a few flicks to remove the excess water, and apply a small amount of shaving cream. You probably just need around 75% of what you would normally need when you make a lather in a bowl. Swirl the brush around your face like a madman and before you know it, you’ll be looking like Santa.

Plus the lather is hotter, you can adjust it as you lather, and the lather is better worked into your beard.
